the different reflections of light were a kaleidoscope

Searching For TreasureIt is four AM and I am walking down the streetSearching For Treasure by ~Broadcraig
the ravenous grip of insomnia has taken hold
minutes clawing slowly towards hours
the bitterness of morning air clutching at my bones.
I see a man younger than I
swooping up and down outside a public house
plucking discarded cigarette butts from the floor
their heads burnt out and fractured like
the drunken men who held them on Friday night.
I want to walk up and tell him
those quarrelsome people he swore he didn't love,
they would take him back in an instant.
He could have that job, that car,
that house, that wife, kids, those beautifully cheeky kids,
he could have it all.
But selfishly I don't
